Making a Will – Why use a Solicitor?
Over 60% of the adult population have not made a Will although it is relatively inexpensive and ensures that your assets will pass to your loved ones. What are the options? Write your own Will? I have been dealing for 3 years with the estate of somebody who wrote their own Will incorrectly and his assets will be going to relatives he never knew existed. Use a Will Writer? There is a common misconception that it is cheaper to use a Will Writer rather than a Solicitor but this is not borne out by statistics. Will writers are unregulated and do not have to take out professional indemnity insurance so if something does go wrong, there is no financial comeback. Wills have become increasingly complicated to draft and disappointed beneficiaries are more likely nowadays to claim against the estate. Using a Solicitor who is a specialist in Wills will ensure that your wishes are accurately reflected in your Will, and that you are properly advised in connection with Inheritance Tax.
